Exam Tips

Write Essay is a simple but important task in PTE because it contributes 17% to the writing section. The answering time is quite limited, so make sure you manage your time well.

There are three steps in answering:

1. Think of your arguments (2 - 3 minutes)

2. Write the essay (13 - 15 minutes)

3. Proofread your essay (2 - 3 minutes)

Make sure to answer all questions in the prompt. For example, if the question requires you to give the advantages and disadvantages of a given topic, you must mention both sides in your essay.

When answering, you should not write the essay in all capital letters or bullet points. Make sure all your punctuation usage is correct and proper. To avoid making mistakes in vocabulary, you should use only expressions or collocations that you are familiar with. Always leave at least 2 to 3 minutes to check your answer before submitting, because you will be heavily penalized if you make any spelling or grammar mistakes.

Answer Time

The maximum answer time given for each WE task is 20 minutes. It is an individually timed task, meaning that even if you finish this question early, such as, in 15 minutes, the remaining 5 minutes will NOT be added to the next question. Therefore, there is no need to rush, and responses should be carefully checked before submission.
